New year check: how do I get my brand identity in shape in 7 steps?

7 December 2023

In short: At the start of the new business year, a one-hour check of your brand presence pays off: are your contact details and opening hours correct everywhere? Does your website load quickly on a smartphone? Do your business card, website and social media match visually? You can check the following seven points yourself, without an agency.

I keep seeing the same gaps with my clients. Take an hour and go through the list.

1. Google Business Profile

Are your opening hours, phone number and website correct? Are the photos up to date? For local businesses in Vienna, the profile is often the first point of contact, even before the website.

2. Your website on a smartphone

Open your website on your phone. Can the phone number be tapped? Does the page load in two or three seconds? Can you see straight away what you offer and where you are?

3. The same contact details everywhere

Website, legal notice, business card, email signature, social media profiles, company car: do they all show the same details? An old address on just one channel costs trust.

4. Legal notice and privacy policy

Are your legal notice and privacy policy up to date? New tools such as an appointment booking system or an advertising pixel must be mentioned there.

5. One look instead of five

Lay your business card, website, folder and Instagram profile side by side. Do they look like one company? If not, what is usually missing is a lean Corporate Design with defined colours and fonts.

6. What do your customers ask most often?

Write down the five questions you hear most often on the phone. Are the answers on your website? These questions are the best material for content, not least because AI search systems pick up exactly these kinds of specific answers.

7. Make your references visible

Show completed projects and real results. A concrete example convinces more than any advertising copy. I show my work in my portfolio, from logos to vehicle lettering.

What happens after the check?

Anything you can do yourself in an hour, do right away. For bigger items, such as a new website or a consistent brand identity, set aside a budget for the first quarter before day-to-day business takes over again.
